Maureen Spinner, DVM, DACVS-SA joined us as an assistant professor (HP) of Soft Tissue Surgery with the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences on October 19, 2020. Dr. Spinner earned her Bachelor of Science at Washington State University where she majored in zoology. She then went on to earn her DVM from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Spinner completed two internships—the first in small animal medicine and surgery from Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA, and the second in small animal surgery at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego in San Diego, CA. She then completed a small animal surgical residency at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island, West Islip, NY. Dr. Spinner's scholarly interests include wound management, feline/canine cancer, reconstructive surgery, and advanced thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. She has a strong passion for teaching and mentoring veterinary students and residents.
Research Interests
- Minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopy and thoracoscopy
- Thoracic and cardiac surgery with an interest in advanced cardiac procedures
- Endocrine tumor surgery in cats and dogs
- Other interests include gallbladder mucocele cholecystectomy, laryngeal paralysis, surgical oncology (cancer therapy), and portosystemic shunt correction
